Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Receives Grant for Local Energy Project
Community-focused clean energy effort will take shape throughout 2018
Bois Forte has received a small grant from the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTS) to hire a Technician to provide minimal weatherization to homes on the reservation. Services will include: inspection of doors and window frames for leaks. The hired Technician will then install spray foam insulation, caulking, weather-stripping as needed, and if the weather still permits it, the final touch will be the installation of plastic on windows. These techniques are known to button up your home to save on heating expenses in the winter, and cooling in the summer if you use air conditioning. The project will be conducted roughly from April, 2018, through May, 2018. Registration will stay open until all spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The grant itself is limited to affording the labor for the project. The supplies are provided through the Elder & Disabled Maintenance Program. Therefore, the Housing Department is extending the invitation to those who are registered in that program. Anyone who is not currently registered can still sign up and must meet the eligibility requirements for the program. You must sign up for this opportunity specifically in order to be included in the project. It is first-come, first-serve, maxed out at fifty (50) homes. Contact Kathleen Adams at the Housing office 218-757-3253. Or send her an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
